Pada in Kannada means a word. It can also refer to a lyric or a verse, which is the essence of most folk music. Pa and Da are incidentally also important svaras (notes) in Indian classical music. Words put together create meaning, verses put together create songs, and svaras put together create music. The PaDa project is envisioned to bring meaning and create relevance for folk music in present times.
